Congratulations to all the exceptional student-athletes and their coaches who made this spring sports season so memorable! The hard work, dedication, and passion displayed on the lacrosse field, the tennis court, the rock climbing crag or the skatepark, has represented Holderness School well.
Hockey Girls Varsity
Overview
The girls varsity hockey program seeks to cultivate the team’s level of play, cohesiveness, resilience, and develop each player’s skills, knowledge, and love of the game. We emphasize being coachable, working hard, being competitive, and supporting teammates
Practices are progressive and develop players’ skills and knowledge through repetition, multiple touches on the puck, and small games that simulate situational play. Off-ice programs complement the on-ice experience, as we have season-long strength and skills programs and frequent video analysis. Ultimately, our goal is not only for Holderness hockey players to be recruited to college hockey programs, but also to know the games so well they become integral parts of their college teams.
Several Holderness student-athletes have gone on to play hockey at the NCAA level at schools including Colby, Bowdoin, Wesleyan University, Middlebury, Brown, Connecticut College, Williams, and Lake Forest.

Athletics News
Holderness School’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team just finished an historic, undefeated season in which they went 17-0, won the NEPSAC Lakes Region Championship, and had all three coaches named U.S. Lacrosse Coaches of the Year.
Taylor Dobyns ’16 thrives in high-pressure situations. Earlier this month, after finishing 2nd in North America in the Freeride World Qualifier, she qualified for the 2024 Freeride World Tour, where elite freeskiers and snowboarders travel the globe to compete on huge mountains and extreme terrain. And, later this spring, she will graduate from law school at the University of Denver. “I definitely get the exact same adrenaline rush having my heart in my throat before dropping into these huge big mountain comp lines and before getting up in court and giving a closing argument,” Taylor says. “My friends joke around that ‘Oh, of course you picked the only two professions – being a professional athlete or being a lawyer – where there’s a winner and a loser.’”
Sometimes a hockey game is more than just a hockey game.
On February 11, the Boys Varsity Hockey team scored two goals in a tie game against Kimball Union Academy. But the most impressive stat to come out of that game didn’t happen on the ice. It was the nearly $6,000 the team raised, with help from the entire Holderness community, for the Sarah Duval Memorial Fund.
