Congratulations to all the exceptional student-athletes and their coaches who made this spring sports season so memorable! The hard work, dedication, and passion displayed on the lacrosse field, the tennis court, the rock climbing crag or the skatepark, has represented Holderness School well.
Snowboarding Eastern
Overview
The Eastern team is for those with a desire to improve their skills and reach the next level. All team members compete at multiple levels, ranging from regional USASA competitions to national and international FIS races.
For many, the season really never ends, but officially the Eastern team starts training in early November and continues to compete through the middle of April. Our home mountain is Loon Mountain, but we have the option to follow the snow. The average Eastern athlete has between 90 and 120 days on snow, not including summer training.
In addition to participating in weekly strength and agility workouts designed by our strength and conditioning coach, snow sports athletes can also work on technique with Nick Preston of Freestyle America or one of the other certified coaches on the school’s trampoline or new on-campus air bag jump. We are committed to providing our snow sports athletes with the equipment, the programs, and the coaching staff they need to train hard and reach the next level.

Athletics News
Holderness School’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team just finished an historic, undefeated season in which they went 17-0, won the NEPSAC Lakes Region Championship, and had all three coaches named U.S. Lacrosse Coaches of the Year.
Taylor Dobyns ’16 thrives in high-pressure situations. Earlier this month, after finishing 2nd in North America in the Freeride World Qualifier, she qualified for the 2024 Freeride World Tour, where elite freeskiers and snowboarders travel the globe to compete on huge mountains and extreme terrain. And, later this spring, she will graduate from law school at the University of Denver. “I definitely get the exact same adrenaline rush having my heart in my throat before dropping into these huge big mountain comp lines and before getting up in court and giving a closing argument,” Taylor says. “My friends joke around that ‘Oh, of course you picked the only two professions – being a professional athlete or being a lawyer – where there’s a winner and a loser.’”
Sometimes a hockey game is more than just a hockey game.
On February 11, the Boys Varsity Hockey team scored two goals in a tie game against Kimball Union Academy. But the most impressive stat to come out of that game didn’t happen on the ice. It was the nearly $6,000 the team raised, with help from the entire Holderness community, for the Sarah Duval Memorial Fund.
