• Field Hockey Girls JV

    2019 - 2020
    Head Coach: Victoria Stigum

Every year the Holderness JV field hockey program includes players with a wide variety of experiences and abilities. Some players have never held a hockey stick, while others have been playing for several years on junior high school teams. It is a program that emphasizes the learning and growth of athletes, no matter their initial starting points. The coaches stress the importance of teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship, while at the same time making sure that the players develop a love for the game.

JV field hockey at Holderness is a true feeder program for the varsity team. While some students may enjoy the lighter schedule and less competitive games played by the JV team, many student-athletes improve a great deal through the course of the season and make the jump to varsity for the final two to three weeks of the season. We meet players where they are and help them achieve their athletic goals!

  • KUA Day

With great energy and good sportsmanship, Holderness and KUA squared off 9 v 9 on crisp and windy fall day. KUA pressured our defense, especially during the first half. But defenders Summer Brayton, Charlie Werner, and Ali Marcus, along with goalie Sacha Levine, managed to keep them from scoring. Lots of advancing and obstruction provided KUA with many corners during the first half, but the Lady Bulls managed to deflect all scoring opportunities. Second half, Holderness took to the field with a focus to have fast feet and quick sticks, and we created more offensive opportunities. Midfielders Honor Nestlehutt and Ady Robison worked hard to transition the ball and make midfield connections. It was an exciting game, and we were pleased with the 0 - 0 tie. We will be encouraging the same great attitude and effort in our next game against St. Paul's.

  • JVFH Ties Proctor

The team was energized from the start and exhibited good teamwork both defensively and offensively the first half, but one score by Proctor took the wind out of our sails for a bit. The girls rallied, however, and, with great passing, tied it up near the end of the second half. Taking advantage of a corner, Addy Robison inserted the ball to Hilary Morris, who took a shot that was redirected by Delia Cooper, scoring our first goal of the season! Reenergized, the team held on for a 1-1 tie. Great progress in skills and tactics is being shown by all.

  • JV Field Hockey Hosts New Hampton

Holderness faced off against a strong New Hampton squad today. The Lady Bulls got off to a slow start, with New Hampton quickly taking a lead and dominating the first half. The Holderness girls rallied and hustled in the second half,  with more passing and assertive defense, holding New Hampton to only one additional goal, for a final score of 0 - 4. Sacha Levine made 15 saves, keeping us in the game. We await our first goal, and teamwork will get us there.   Tomorrow, the team hosts Proctor at 2:00 on the quad.
