  • Bulls Find the Net

After a week of brutally close 1-0 losses to top tier Class C teams, the Bulls ended the scoring drought and found the back of the net today at home against the Hebron Lumberjacks. Midway through the opening frame, Astrid Martin '20 collected a Hebron goal kick and found Noelle Boes '22 in the box who beat the keeper and put the ball in the left side of the net. Hebron answered with a goal of their own on a breakaway counter attack, and capitalized on the Bulls' defense stepping too far up the field. The Bulls turned up the pressure and Boes continued to make dangerous runs with the ball up the right side of the field. Eventually, her cross came to the feet of Hannah Mullaly '22 who knocked the ball home for the second goal. The Lumberjacks would not give up, found the Bulls ball-watching in the box with players unattended on the weak side, and punished the sleeping Bulls with a second goal to tie the game going into half. The Bulls came out for the second half with a renewed energy and determination to take control of the game. Within the first three minutes, the Bulls earned a corner kick. Emma Gagne '20 delivered a dangerous ball and after some deflections in front of the goal mouth Hannah Donahue '23 put the ball away for the Bulls' third goal. A few minutes later, Gagne found Donahue again who beat her defender and took a long shot from 20 yards out that sailed into the top left corner for the fourth and final goal. The Bulls challenged the Hebron keeper many times throughout the rest of the half, but she held strong for a 4-2 final score. Inspiring play in the second half from Gabi Siegel '22, Rachel Storey '22, Ella Cedrone '23, and Makenna Hubert '22. The Bulls look forward to a rival game against Proctor Academy on Saturday.

  • Bulls lose a heartbreaker to Class C Powerhouse

The Bulls played their best team soccer of the year on Wednesday afternoon, but lost to Brewster on a free kick goal in the last 30 seconds of play. Brewster controlled much of the possession in the opening half, but only managed a few shots on goal because of the Bulls' disciplined, focused and patient team defense. Holderness threatened a few chances of their own on some dangerous set pieces from midfield, but did not capitalize. In the second half, both teams traded opportunities and the ball was played more equally in both ends of the field. Gutsy performances throughout the 80 minutes from seniors Astrid Martin '20, Emma Gagne '20, Kirsten DiCicco '20, and Kiara Wilson '20. The Bulls will recover from this battle tomorrow as they prepare for two more big Class C rivals Kimball Union and Berwick Academy this weekend.

  • Bulls lose to powerful Exeter squad

The Bulls traveled south to face Phillips Exeter last Wednesday. The teams traded chances in the opening frame, and scoring started with a Holderness goal from Noelle Boes '22 unfortunately being called back. Exeter quickly responded with a long shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the upper right corner of the net. The Bulls stayed compact and applied pressure, but Exeter capitalized on another shot from distance at the end of the half to put themselves up 2-0. In the second half, an unfortunate handball in the box gave Exeter a penalty kick and they converted for 3-0. The last two goals came late in the second half and the Bulls didn't have the stamina to ward off the powerful Exeter attack. All that said, goalkeeper Kirsten DiCicco '20 was the player of the match for the Bulls and turned away countless other opportunities throughout both halves. The team will bounce back from this tough loss and look forward to a rival match against New Hampton on Saturday.
