• Field Hockey Girls JV

    2021 - 2022
    Head Coach: Victoria Stigum

Every year the Holderness JV field hockey program includes players with a wide variety of experiences and abilities. Some players have never held a hockey stick, while others have been playing for several years on junior high school teams. It is a program that emphasizes the learning and growth of athletes, no matter their initial starting points. The coaches stress the importance of teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship, while at the same time making sure that the players develop a love for the game.

JV field hockey at Holderness is a true feeder program for the varsity team. While some students may enjoy the lighter schedule and less competitive games played by the JV team, many student-athletes improve a great deal through the course of the season and make the jump to varsity for the final two to three weeks of the season. We meet players where they are and help them achieve their athletic goals!

  • Halloween Plunge

We traveled to Brewster on a rainy Saturday to play the Bobcats. Both teams played with spirit, energy, and sportsmanship.  The Bulls secured a 4 -0 lead the first half, with forwards Sophie, Annie, and Charlie all putting the ball in the net.  But the highlight of the game (maybe even the season) was the post game plunge into Wolfeboro Bay!  Go Bulls!

  • New Hampton Away

The JV Field Hockey team travelled down to neighboring New Hampton School and continued to find success on turf fields. New Hampton had a small team, so we played 8 v 8, which proved challenging, and it took some time to sort out proper field position. However, our offensive line peppered the New Hampton goalie, and we came out on top 3-0. Annie Kinsley had a nice shot on goal, followed her shot, recovered the rebound off the goalie’s pads and took another shot. Sophie Tonello finally put the ball in the net, with Annie earning the assist.  Benefitting from good field position, Sophie also scored our 2nd goal. Midfielder Ellie Worster snagged our third goal. Goalie Mia Gonsalves had considerable action with brilliant saves, including bringing a breakaway to a screeching halt with confidence, appropriately cutting off angles as she came out of the net. Our midfielders ran their hearts out, and our defense worked the defensive diagonal, shutting down many of New Hampton’s offensive drives. All relished the good feeling of having made more progress in tactics and team play and seeing that progress result in another win.

  • JVFH Hosts Brewster Academy

JVFH hosted Brewster Academy for our first home game, which was played on the turf.  The team took advantage of the turf, and the players were able to make passes that were fast and long.  Several played multiple positions, all ran hard, and with frequent substitutions, we could capitalize on many opportunities. Our defense was dependable and in position, contributing to the shutout. YAY for Addy Robison, Lila Wheelock, and Charlie Wheeler, who each scored a goal. Notable is that team play, with unrelenting progress up the field, resulted in each score.
