Mountain guide Jordan Cargill ’11, representing the Bryce and Ronnie Athlete Snow Safety Foundation (BRASS Avalanche), recently returned to campus to share valuable avalanche safety knowledge with our Snow Sports athletes.
Founded in memory of U.S. Ski Team athletes Ronnie Berlack and Bryce Astle, who tragically lost their lives in an avalanche, BRASS Avlanche is dedicated to transforming the culture of avalanche safety and ensuring no athlete ventures into the mountains unprepared. During his visit, Jordan emphasized the importance of snow safety education and best practices, equipping students with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions in the backcountry.
From understanding avalanche forecasts to using safety equipment, Jordan’s guidance reinforced the critical role preparation plays in navigating snowy terrain. Through real-world scenarios and training tips, he provided our athletes with valuable resources to prioritize safety in the mountains.
