Holderness Welcomes New Trustees
Andrew Herring

Holderness School’s Board of Trustees is a group of volunteers – alumni, parents, and friends – who give their time, expertise, and care to the school.  It’s no easy task when you consider the history and landscape of education, but this dedicated group of board members discharges their duties with humility and care.  And this fall, Holderness School welcomes four new board members whose expertise will undoubtedly benefit the mission of the school: Dr. Elizabeth Gardner, Anne Lompo P’22 ’24, Simon Parmett P’25, and CJ Vincent ’06

“I am thrilled to welcome four new members to the Holderness Board of Trustees this fall,” says Board Chair Nell Reynolds P ’18 ‘20 ’22. “They are a dynamic group who bring an exciting depth of expertise, perspective, and background to our already-robust board. They are truly excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve Holderness in this new role, and I am excited for the community to get to know them.”

Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Gardner

As Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopedics at Yale Medical School and Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for Yale Athletics, Dr. Elizabeth Gardner has a clear understanding of the support active teens need to best support their health and wellness.  While she did not attend Holderness, Liz grew up visiting and hearing stories of the school as her father and two uncles graduated in the 1960s; today, Liz works alongside current trustee Burgie Howard ’82 at Yale University.

“I hope to provide the perspective of a physician who works in a collegiate setting, treating and mentoring both student-athletes as well as the general undergraduate and medical student populations,” says Liz. “I aim to take the lessons I’ve learned in this role to advise the board how Holderness students may be best prepared for the challenges that they will face in their future educational environments.”

Anne Lompo P’22 ’24

Anne Lompo is no stranger to schools or to Holderness.  An experienced reading specialist, Anne has worked in schools in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, and she recently completed a Master’s degree in literacy leadership for diverse schools at George Mason University.  As a current parent, Anne has an understanding of the student experience, and hopes to use her experience as an educator and parent to inform her thinking as a board member.

“I would like to see how, through traditions like Out Back, the Jobs Program, and Project Outreach, as well as potential new ideas, we can help students connect more deeply with nature and each other to ground them spiritually and socially while giving them a sense of their responsibility toward the planet and society.”

Simon Parmett P’25

Simon Parmett P’25 brings the perspective of both a current parent and a leader in technology.  An accomplished executive leading global companies, Simon was most recently CEO of MuleSoft, a software company focused on data and application integration, where he saw the company grow from a 25-person team to more than 3,000 employees globally.  He also successfully launched MuleSoft’s IPO and subsequent acquisition by Salesforce.

“Holderness' open and inclusive mindset, amazing breadth and keen focus on the whole student allows trustees to bring their full array of skills and experiences to the school,” says Simon. “In addition, trustees are invited to engage directly with students and faculty, providing invaluable context for trustees as well as an important avenue for learning and mentorship.  I'm also hopeful that my work in technology across the past 25 years, largely in the San Francisco Bay Area, allows me to bring perspectives and experiences that can further support Holderness' vision to develop people the world needs most.”

CJ Vincent ’06

CJ Vincent ’06 returns to Holderness from Cupertino, California, where he works as Manager, Global Supply Chain Management at Apple.  With a background in mechanical engineering and supply chain management, CJ has worked on several notable Apple offerings, including the Apple Watch, iPhone, and suite of audio products and accessories.

Reflecting on his time as a student at Holderness and looking forward to his service on the board, CJ says, “I loved the modest but expansive campus and the focus on the outdoors and developing the whole person. I hope to be a voice for what makes Holderness what it is – keeping the character of the school intact while also helping the Head and faculty usher the school into the next era.”
