• Field Hockey Girls JV

    2018 - 2019
    Head Coach: Victoria Stigum

Every year the Holderness JV field hockey program includes players with a wide variety of experiences and abilities. Some players have never held a hockey stick, while others have been playing for several years on junior high school teams. It is a program that emphasizes the learning and growth of athletes, no matter their initial starting points. The coaches stress the importance of teamwork, conditioning, and sportsmanship, while at the same time making sure that the players develop a love for the game.

JV field hockey at Holderness is a true feeder program for the varsity team. While some students may enjoy the lighter schedule and less competitive games played by the JV team, many student-athletes improve a great deal through the course of the season and make the jump to varsity for the final two to three weeks of the season. We meet players where they are and help them achieve their athletic goals!

  • Lady Bulls Away at Proctor

The JV Field Hockey team traveled to Andover, NH to play Proctor on a beautiful fall day.  Both teams came out strong.  Holderness scored first, but Proctor responded with 2 quick goals.  At half time, the Bulls were down 1 - 2.  During the second half, Holderness focused on the basics practiced the previous week, such as block tackles, changing the field of play, defensive positioning, and corners.  This strategy proved effective, and Holderness capitalized on corner opportunities and converted two into goals, giving the Lady Bulls a 3 - 2 lead.  The Proctor Hornets continued to pressure, but the Bulls responded with a fourth goal, to secure the 4 - 2 victory.  Three different players scored the goals, reflecting strong teamwork throughout the game. The girls had fantastic communication and applied many skills learned in practice.

  • JVFH Away at New Hampton

The lady bulls played hard today, but were defeated by a strong New Hampton squad.  New Hampton earned an early lead, but Holderness pressured the huskies throughout the game.  Goalie Bella Rowan made many excellent saves and helped keep the bulls in the game.  Freshman Mary Page scored our first goal off of a corner inserted by Halle Barker.  Freshmen Grace Farley had a fast break during the second half and made a nice connecting pass to Lauren Feeley who found the back of the net.  The girls ended the day with a postgame stretch and enthusiastic team dance!
