The Holderness girls’ JV soccer team contains a wide range of talent but is a cohesive group of competitive, high-spirited girls, who are determined to improve their skills, while enjoying the sport to the fullest.
The program is focused on skills development. Depending on the numbers each year, there are one or two junior varsity squads, ensuring that all players receive plenty of attention and experience in games. Players on the JV2 squad are traditionally new to the game, while players on the JV1 squad have the potential to move up and play at the varsity level. The coaches understand that there are varying levels of skill, so they are adept at catering practices to challenge all abilities. It is the hope that each player will develop over the course of the season and discover a love for the game.
Every player contributed great effort and skilled plays both offensively and defensively in a game that moved up and down the field frequently. The girls set up passes and crosses to each other and sent many shots toward our opponents' net. Allegra Driscoll, team captain, scored our goal! We appreciated all of the fan support on our home field.
In our best effort to date, the girls' JV team worked together like a well-oiled machine. The defense moved in-sync with one another to make sure they had each other's backs. The outside-midfielders stayed wide to receive passes and bring the ball up the outside while the center midfielders sent balls flying up to the corners for the forwards to retrieve. The forwards positioned themselves strategically to take shot after shot until they suceeded in scoring. Our first goal was made by Charley Croft off an indirect kick by Ingrid Blau. Pippa Sheffield scores our next two goals. One was a beautiful shot from outside the box and the other was a scramble in front of the net with a perfectly-placed pass by Allegra Driscoll. Congratulations to the team for this win!
