For the first time in a while, Holderness had numbers and was able to skate three lines and two sets of defense. Despite the ability to have fresh legs, Holderness gave up four goals in the first ten minutes and was never able to recover. After that initial rocky start, the Bulls played the Hornets even for the remaining thirty-five minutes, each team tallying three goals.
Hoderness’s first goal was by senior captain Will Harker. Will circled behind the net and tucked one in on near side before the Proctor goalie could recover. It was Will’s second goal of the season. In the second period, it was Ben Booker who took a solid rip from the point. The rebound lay out front for Nolan Sullivan who dove and directed the puck past the sprawling Proctor goalie into the net. It was Nolan’s sixth goal of the season. To close out the Holderness scoring, defenseman Matt Butchma would carry the puck into the Proctor zone in the third period and fire a shot on net through a screen. The shot evaded the Hornet goalie, and Matt would record his third goal of the season.
Holderness would have many exciting scoring chances, but they just couldn’t capitalize when they needed it most. Holderness goalie Sergio Yap was solid in the net, recording 29 saves on 36 shots. The Proctor game was the end of the line for the Bulls. The team wrapped up the season with a 3-9 record. Much appreciation and thanks go out to senior forwards Will Harker and Wei Hao Cai. These two players have been the backbone of the team for the past three years, and their leadership and presence will be missed next winter!
