Although a 9-1 score would imply a lopsided game, nothing could be further from the truth. The Bulls were stymied by a hot Tilton goalie and some plain bad luck. The shots were about even, but the Holderness shots hit posts, were deflected wide or were just stopped by good goaltending.
Credit goes out to the whole team for playing 18-minute periods with only twelve skaters and one goalie while competing against Tilton’s Varsity “B” team. The white line of Tom Hendriks, Reilly Cepuritis and Wei Hao Cai logged a ton of ice time and had their fair share of scoring opportunities. The red line of Nolan Sullivan, Eric Freudigman and Will Harker was relentless and ultimately created the team’s lone score early in the third period when Sullivan snapped off a wrist shot coming into the Tilton zone that found the top right corner of the net. Will Keating and Alex Oliver provided much needed fresh legs throughout the game while earning valuable playing time and experience. The defensive pairings of Ben Booker & Matt Butchma and Charlie Crumbo & Cole Lehouiller were busy all afternoon and played solid two-way hockey in front of goalie Sergio Yap. Sergio, earning his first start of the year, was outstanding from start to finish, recording 39 saves, many of them from close in and off of rebounds.
Much thanks to the Freudigman, Sullivan and Keating families for their awesome support on this frigid day in New England. The team will get back to work next week and get ready for a Wednesday, 1/10 game @ Proctor Academy at 2:00 p.m.
