The JV Bulls opened their season today with a hard fought 3-0 win over Proctor. Goals were hard to come by for both teams as Holderness scored one in each of the three periods while goalie Leo LaPata accumulated 27 saves on his way to a shutout for the Bulls.
With just over five minutes left on the first period clock, Tom Hendricks would find Eric Freudigman on the fly, and Eric would roof a shot from a tough angle to earn the team’s first goal of the season.
In the second, defenseman Matt Butchma would start his rush from center ice down the left side. Once in the zone, he turned his defenseman and cut through the slot, moving the puck to his backhand. Once the goalie committed, Matt slid the puck five-hole to put the Bulls up by two.
Just four minutes into the third stanza, the Bulls would establish some breathing room when Jack Bayreuther and Cole Lehouiller would set up Reilly Cepuritis for the team’s third goal of the game. From there, strong play by the defense and smart two-way hockey by the forwards helped maintain the shutout for the home team.
It was a good start for the Bulls, although there is plenty of work to be done. Holderness will be back in action on Saturday when they host Top Gun for a 2:00 game.
