The Boys’ JV2 Soccer team opened its season today with a road match at Proctor.  Proctor had a few contests under its belt, and it looked like it as the Hornets shot out to an early 3-0 lead.  Proctor’s center midfielder scored all three goals and made it look too easy.
The Bulls regrouped under the backfield guidance of Spencer Glascock and began to play much better team soccer, especially in the defensive end.  Defenders Glascock, Mikey Cosgrave, Boss Ngamkanjanarat, Charlie Crumbo and Jackson Lehner worked hard together and shut down Proctor for the remainder of the game.
With three minutes left in the first half, it was Charlie Morris who took a crack at a ball outside the 18 and drilled a top corner shot into the back of the net to give the Bulls life and narrow the score to 1-3.  Midfielder Ethan Hayes and striker Binh Dinh played valuable minutes in the waning minutes to assist in the ensuing comeback.
In the second half, it was just about all Holderness.  The team dominated play in their offensive end but struggled to get legitimate shots on net.  With Sixteen minutes left on the game clock, Crumbo took a direct kick from the left flank and lofted a ball over to attacker Brooks Reed breaking for the net.  Brooks had a great first-touch on the ball and volleyed an instep kick into the far corner of the net.  With the score now 2-3, the tempo of the game increased.
Proctor changed goalies and inserted their talented midfielder back into the center of the field.  Seven Ju was given the task of covering him while the rest of the team was focused on getting the equalizer.  As luck would have it, a scrum in the Proctor box saw a loose ball find its way onto the foot of Henry Richard.  Henry left nothing to chance and drilled a low liner past the diving Proctor goalie to knot the score at 3-3.
There was still seven minutes left on the clock, and neither team wanted to settle for the tie.  Sound defensive work by Young Gwon and Finn Pilaro continually frustrated the Proctor attack, while the fresh legs of Max Alden and Alberto Bazzoni kept the ball in the Bulls offensive half of the field.  Despite good scoring opportunities on both sides, the clock ran out and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Credit goes out to Alan Yu for tending the goal for the first half and to Matt Butchma who came in to relieve him with about twenty minutes left in the game.  Matt had some top-notch saves to keep the Bull’s second half slate clean as they crafted their comeback.
The Bull’s record is now 0-0-1; you can see them in action on Family Weekend at home vs. Kimball Union Academy at 4:00 p.m.
