Rev. Marshall took up the role of headmaster in 1922. His first order of business was to make improvements to the school grounds. Marshall pressed the importance of having a strong academic foundation upon which to build a career, but also knew the value of having an energetic, spirited community in which to live and learn. He changed the school colors from crimson and white to the more distinctive blue and silver.

Under Rev. Marshall, Holderness maintained positive relationships with the neighboring towns, often engaging in athletic competitions with Plymouth Regional High School. Basketball and hockey teams flourished under Marshall’s leadership.
