Rev. Alban Richey (1929-1931)

Rev. Richey arrived at Holderness in 1929 and immediately set to work boosting the school’s endowment and enrollment. In an attempt to boost admission yield, he oversaw the publishing of two school viewbooks and reached out to the young alumni to help support their school. Rev. Richey also preached all across New England in an effort to get the word out about Holderness.

Despite all this, Richey did not neglect the campus. He paid close attention to the buildings and saw to it that they presented a welcoming front to all potential applicants. By his second year at Holderness, enrollment had increased from 40 to 67 students. Unfortunately, in January of 1931, a fire ravaged East Dorm, and many of the occupants of that dorm were forced to relocate to the town of Plymouth.
