Golf Team Scores Perfect Season

Mike Romagnoli, Head Golf Coach
Holderness School’s Varsity Golf Team concluded its perfect season with an impressive 9-0 victory over Tilton School on Saturday, May 15.  The squad went 4-0 over two bouts with Tilton, one with Proctor, and one with KUA this spring.  Scoring went as follows: 6-3, 7-2, 8-1, and 9-0.
The season started out a bit hectic as we had to search for a course to call our home, but Ridgewood Country Club in Moultonborough kindly obliged, and we began our work right away.

The team was led by Captain Fran D’Orio ‘22 and Assistant Captain Sean Senier ‘22.  The team competed in three groups during all matches; Sean and Quinn McCarthy both filled our one and two players, Ryan McNamara ‘21 and Cooper Boulanger ‘22 both filled the third and fourth roles, and Fran D’Orio, Ethan Hayes ‘21, Jack Hutchins ‘22, and Matt Pollini ‘22 all competed in our fifth and sixth spots.

Sean Senier had a remarkable season as he went undefeated despite playing against our opponents’ top competition on a weekly basis.  Ethan Hayes and Matt Pollini played in their first high school matches as Bulls and both had a remarkable record: Ethan 2-0, and Matt 1-0.

The team was able to play at some lovely courses, both through competition and on weekend fun escapes.  The outside courses we played at were: Pheasant Ridge Golf Club, Lochmere Country Club, North Conway Country Club, Kernwood Country Club, and Lake Sunapee Country Club.

The team not only succeeded in wins, but also with being such a cohesive and cooperative team.  There were many laughs, jokes, great stories, and fun times had by all.  They played during the rain, wind and cold, and were always pushing themselves to score better and support each other as they grew as a team.  It’s no surprise that the team accomplished so many goals this year, because with good attitudes and a little fun, everything is possible.
