Nordic Coach Pat Casey gives an update on both the boys and girls Nordic season.
As the calendar flips to February, the Holderness Nordic Skiing team is setting its sights on “[qualifying] for… national… [and] regional championship races,” shares Nordic Coach Pat Casey. The Bulls have had a strong start to the season: “The girls’ team keeps winning” and the boys have consistently been “right in there for a podium position.” The girls’ team has been led by a new junior from Kauniainen, Finland, Olivia Lammivaara ‘20. She has quickly become “one of the girls to beat in the prep school scene” and finished first as the Holderness girls swept the podium and the boys earned a first place finish of their own last Wednesday at St. Paul’s School.
This past Saturday, Holderness welcomed over 800 skiers to campus as the school hosted the first New Hampshire Coaches’ Series race of the season. Both teams had strong performances with the girls claiming another first place team finish in the high school A race: taking first (Lammivaara ‘20), third (Amanda Vansant ‘20) and fourth (Mae Whitcomb ‘21). The boys’ team, finished in sixth with Buzz Fisher ‘19 and Gus Whitcomb ‘20 finishing fourth and seventh respectively.
Head Coach Pat Casey looks forward to another busy month in February, full of “high end racing,” and hopes to continue the success the team has seen into the second half of the season.
