“Enjoy when you can. Endure when you must.” It’s a simple maxim meant to guide students through one of the most defining and iconic Holderness experiences. Ten days of winter camping in the White Mountains, punctuated by a three-day solo. It’s a daunting endeavor for even the most seasoned outdoorsperson, much less a junior in high school.
Yet, Holderness recognizes the value in putting kids in the woods and getting them out of their comfort zone. It’s why we’ve done Out Back for 50 years now. The snowy wilderness of the White Mountain National Forest is our classroom. And every mile snowshoed, campfire made, and mountain conquered is our lesson.
Just as we have for the past 50 years, we invite you to join us in this adventure, where we celebrate the outdoors and one another. Relive memories of Out Back with our photo galleries. Share your outdoor pursuits on social media with #OutBack50. Organize or attend an Out Back 50th gathering. Or, simply, get back outside.
