Tuition & Financial Aid

Holderness School uses a nationally standardized system for financial aid offered by Clarity. Each family completes a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submits it to Clarity. Upon your request, the PFS is sent to Holderness School. Financial documents required for submission to Clarity will be handled with the utmost level of privacy.

The financial aid committee determines financial aid grants for admitted students based on a family’s demonstrated financial need. Although Holderness benefits from a robust financial aid budget, there is no guarantee that the full amount for which a family qualifies will be granted.

Any family with an “estimated family contribution” (assessed by Clarity) less than the tuition charges for the year is eligible to receive a financial aid grant.

January 15: Submit Parent Financial Statement (PFS) form for returning students

February 1: Submit applications for admission.  Submit completed PFS online: Clarity.  

February 15: Submit required backup financial documents to Clarity.

March 10: Financial aid decisions are mailed to the families of newly admitted students.

Is financial aid available for international students?
Holderness School offers financial aid to international students. International families must fill out a Clarity application, remembering to convert to US dollars on the form. In addition, please submit government documents verifying a family’s stated income and assets.

What if parents are divorced or separated?
If parents are divorced or separated, complete information is required from all family members, including both biological parents and step–parents. Both biological parents are required to file separate Clarity applications in order to determine need.

What kind of financial aid can families expect after the first year?
Once a student is awarded financial aid from Holderness, the family needs to submit the Clarity application each subsequent year. Assuming a family continues to demonstrate the same level of need, financial aid will continue to be awarded at the same percentage of the total tuition.

Are the financial aid records confidential?
All financial aid information is strictly confidential and viewed only by the financial aid committee.

Are there other financing options available in the form of loans?
Holderness works with two loan programs that specialize in student financing:

Are there payment plans available?
Yes—we offer three payment plans through our billing service, Smart Tuition. Please enroll at www.enrollwithsmart.com to review the different payment plans. Through Smart Tuition, you will be able to view your balance, make payments, update your personal information, and chat with a live representative.
