Application Process

Applying to Holderness is very straightforward. Just follow the instructions below — taking special note of the important deadlines to help you plan — and complete each step as thoroughly as possible.   • Step 1: Inquire

    Interested in learning more about Holderness? Please inquire Our admissions team is here to answer any questions you have about the campus, life as a day- or boarding-student, and what makes Holderness unique.
  • Step 2: Schedule a Virtual Visit

    Holderness School is excited to offer an in-person school experience for our students.  Out of an abundance of caution, visitors will not be allowed on campus for the time being.  The Admission Office remains open and available to show you our campus and answer your questions.

  • Step 3: Apply

    After you have filled out our online inquiry form, the next step is to visit the online site of the SSAT application, which allows families to complete just one online application that will pre-fill to multiple private/independent schools' applications.
  • Step 4: Optional Testing

    • SSAT is optional. A WISC–V or WISC IV, taken within the past two years, can be submitted in place of the SSAT.

    • Eleventh grade, twelfth grade, and postgraduate applicants have the option of taking the PSAT, SAT, or ACT.

    • The TOEFL is optional for non–native speakers of English.
  • Step 5: Payment for Application

    • An application fee of $50 is required for all domestic students. If you are an international student, the fee is $125. U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. bank or international money order are required.

    • If you are filling out the Holderness School online application, you will be automatically prompted to pay the fee on the last page.

    • If you are downloading the PDF version of the Holderness School application, you will need to submit your fee through the Holderness School E-payment Portal. Please include the printed confirmation sheet with your mailed, scanned, or faxed application.

Important Dates

  • December 10: Preferred SSAT sitting for the optional test; Register at www.ssat.org
  • January 6: Last Day for SSAT (test is entirely optional)
    • The WISC V is also an acceptable alternative.
    • Eleventh grade, twelfth grade, and postgraduate applicants have the option of taking the PSAT, SAT, or ACT.
  • February 1: Application and Financial Aid Deadline
  • February 15: Financial Aid Supporting Documentation Deadline
    • If you are seeking financial aid, please file the Parent Financial Statement at www.nais.org/parents by February 1, and upload the required tax statements by February 15.
  • March 10: Notification of Admission Committee Decisions
  • April 4: Second Visit Day
  • April 6: Second Visit Day
  • April 8: Second Visit Day
  • April 10: Parents Notify Holderness of Decision
