The Alfond Library
hosts Holderness’ Center for Teaching and Learning. Recognizing that intentional teaching is crucial for students to learn well and that teachers, like other professionals, need to experience on-going learning, the Center for Teaching and Learning provides innovative and strategic professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff. The Center supports professional learning as a central and sustained part of working at the school.
The team at the Center for Teaching and Learning consists of the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Academic Dean, and the Dean of Faculty. Their work is supported by the Academic Committee (department chairs, director of college counseling, academic technology coordinator), the Director of Equity and Inclusion, the Dean of Students and the Dean of Athletics. This team works together to design in-house professional learning opportunities throughout the year, support faculty growth with a robust off-campus professional development budget, provide students the tools they need to think about and understand their own learning. The team also works together to research and engage new ideas in education; thus, it serves as an innovative space to support Holderness faculty as they work to most effectively serve students.
