Last week, the Holderness School community came together for a joyful and flavorful evening at the Cultural Celebration Dinner. The night was filled with laughter, connection, and pride as we celebrated the diverse backgrounds that make our community so unique.

A curated, delicious menu featuring cultural dishes from around the world—each plate sharing a story of heritage and tradition. From smoky Jamaican jerk chicken and comforting Jewish matzo ball soup to savory Swedish meatballs and refreshing Taiwanese bubble tea, there was truly something for everyone to enjoy.

The night was about more than just great food—it was a celebration of play, too! Ten traditional games from around the globe were featured at each table, sparking friendly competition and plenty of fun. Guests passed along sipas from the Philippines, played Tushla Bazi from Afghanistan, and took part in Korean games like Ddajki and Gonggi. The blend of interactive games and international cuisine made for an unforgettable, hands-on cultural experience.
Students played "Mahjong", a complex game developed in the 19th century in China.
Sharing cultural experiences with our community fosters understanding, empathy, and connection across diverse backgrounds. It allows students to appreciate different perspectives, traditions, and values, breaking down stereotypes and promoting mutual respect. By exchanging cultural practices—such as food, music, language, or celebrations—we not only preserve heritage but also enrich our own worldview without even having to leave New Hampshire. These shared moments create opportunities for learning, collaboration, and unity in an increasingly globalized world.
