Application Process

Applying to Holderness is very straightforward. There is a lot of fine print, but it’s hard to go wrong. Just follow the instructions below—taking special note of the important deadlines to help you plan—and complete each step as thoroughly as possible.   • Step 1: Inquire

    Interested in learning more about Holderness? Please inquire Our admissions team is here to answer any questions you have about the campus, life as a day- or boarding-student, and what makes Holderness unique.
  • Step 2: Schedule a Visit

    Families who visit Holderness School often tell us that meeting the students, seeing our campus, and experiencing our beautiful natural setting and friendly culture are what help them understand what is special about Holderness. To schedule a visit, please give our Admission Office a call: (603) 536-1747. If you are unable to join us on campus, interviews over Skype or another form of electronic communication can be arranged.
  • Step 3: Apply

    An application can be submitted one of four ways. Make sure you also consult the list of Required Materials found on the right.
    1. Complete Holderness School’s online application.
    2. Download and complete Holderness School’s PDF application.
    3. Use the SSAT Standard Application Online (SAO): Step one is to fill out our online inquiry form. Step two is to visit the online site of the SSAT application.
    4. Complete the Boarding Schools Admission Common Application Form: Step one is to fill out our online inquiry form. Step two is to print and complete the downloadable PDF and either scan and send it by email or send it via fax or postal service. For more information visit the TABS site.
  • Step 4: Required Testing

    • Applicants for the ninth or tenth grade must take the SSAT. A WISC–V or WISC IV, taken within the past two years, will be accepted in place of the SSAT.

    • Eleventh grade, twelfth grade, and post graduate applicants have the option of taking the PSAT, SAT, or ACT.

    • The TOEFL is required for non–native speakers of English.
  • Step 5: Payment for Application

    • An application fee of $50 is required for all domestic students. If you are an international student, the fee is $100. U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. bank or international money order are required.

    • If you are filling out the Holderness School online application, you will be automatically prompted to pay the fee on the last page.

    • If you are downloading the PDF version of the Holderness School application, you will need to submit your fee through the Holderness School ePayment Portal. Please include the printed confirmation sheet with your mailed, scanned, or faxed application.

Important Dates

  • December 10: Preferred SSAT sitting; Register at www.ssat.org
  • January 7: Last Day for SSAT 
    • Applicants for the ninth or tenth grade must take the SSAT. The WISC V is also an acceptable alternative.
    • Eleventh grade, twelfth grade, and post graduate applicants have the option of taking the PSAT, SAT, or ACT.
  • February 1: Application and Financial Aid Deadline
  • February 15: Financial Aid Supporting Documentation Deadline
    • If you are seeking financial aid, please file the Parent Financial Statement at sss.nais.org/parents by February 1, and upload the required tax statements by February 15.
  • March 10: Notification of Admission Committee Decisions
  • April 7: Second Visit Day
  • April 9: Second Visit Day
  • April 10: Second Visit Day
  • April 10: Parents Notify Holderness of Decision
